You may have noticed that I didn’t jump on the Hitler Lakewood Video like I would on a chabad girl and that’s because it’s been done, so many times in fact that I’m sick of it. That scene from the movie Downfall or Der Untergang is probably one of the most parodied movies in all time and I know how the Lakewood thing came about, some frummy stumbled across the scene and said “Oh I’ll be the first one to do this” and alas he wasn’t, wasn’t even in the first thousand.
Just like the NCSY chanukah video, the Hitler’s kids can’t get into Jewish schools in Lakewood video was sent to me over 10 times via email, countless times on twitter and facebook and the one person who could get me to post it was the one who said “maybe you can do a post on how Jews always jump on the bandwagon after the wagon’s already left” and so here is the video – which is actually very funny:

So wrong. My grandparents perished. The sub-titles were funny on their own. Maybe this is one bandwagon we should have missed. Here’s to short over long and open toed shoes.
Flags fly on the night of victory.
Above the Kremlin, lights play on the head of Stalin.
Held up by balloons he swings with the wind.
His face stares down at me.
Berlin’s on fire, Hitler dead.
Fear burns my flesh to ashes.
He burned my mother, Hitler is dead.
And now the other eyes me in the darkness.
RFZ, that was a very moving poem.
I’d send this to my dad, but he speaks fluent German and would probably just be confused.
It’s funny.
It would’ve been funnier 2 years ago.
And you are absolutely right. Frummies always catch on when it’s too late… 😉
Frummies also catch on to food trends too late. Like sushi 10 years after it was popular in secular society and small fancy cupcakes about 5 years after it was popular.
That’s often how long it can take to create a kosher product in a profitable way.
I still don’t understand how the sushi can be kosher! I am trying to learn more about the laws of kashrut, though. :^)
Just use kosher fish, and mock-crab and stuff.
All the other ingredients are vegetables.
(Is seaweed a veg? I think so…)
Yankel,
Seaweed is kosher until the day some genius says it may be infested with plankton.
That’s when we’ll get the 4 hechsher bodek seaweed that you won’t have to place under a microscope before eating, at 10 times the price.
Actually, there is a significant concern about seaweed. The way they get it off the floor is with a huge tweezer-like machine, which just grabs at a whole patch and tears it off. Very often, there are seahorses and other insects trapped inside, and they can get dried and become undetectable pretty easily.
Yankel,
I guess the chumradoxes beat me to it (probably because I don’t eat sushi).
People should be more worried about the bacteria and parasites transmitted by eating raw fish than about seahorses in the seaweed. If the seahorse gets crushed, it no longer assur to eat the seaweed, much like the way you find hechsher’s on raspberry jam.
Has bodek set up an underwater seaweed farm yet?
Phil, with all those awesome huge fish you catch you should totally make your own sushi!
Mahla,
Too dangerous. Freshwater fish must be thoroughly frozen or cooked prior to consumption, otherwise you risk parasitical infestation.
Look up Jewish wives disease, it’s basically a parasite that comes from eating raw or pickled pike, can grow up to 40 feet long in human bowels. It got it’s name from Jewish European women that made gefilte fish every week and had a habit of tasting to see if it was ready.
Part of being a fishermen is knowing what’s safe to eat and what isn’t, about 90% of what I catch get’s released anyway.
A general rule to keep in mind regarding parasitic worms in sushi (at least here on the West Coast) is that generally your white salt water and some freshwater fish (Pacific snapper, halibut, sea bass, pike, carp… Okay, carp is not really a good sushi fish), and even salmon can have parasitic worms. Most of these worms as far as I know are killed by your digestive system, however, there may be some cases of infestation into people but I’ve never heard of it. In regards to sushi salmon (sake), most Japanese restaurants will confirm that it is frozen prior to serving it to the public. Therefore, you shouldn’t see a fresh piece of salmon with great marbling and assume it’s okay to make it into sushi (unless you freeze it). Rest assured, we all have immune systems that take care of most of the stuff however, the worms that are parasitic to humans are another matter.
Izzy,
Freshwater species are the specific ones that have parasites that affect humans, and most sushi as made from saltwater species, so the chances may be lower.
That doesn’t stop bacteria like salmonella or lysteria, which are commonly found in raw fish.
Honestly, I’ve eaten sushi only twice in my life, both times were at out of town simchas where I hadn’t eaten all day and that was the only thing available.
I’m clueless as to why people dish out big bucks for this stuff, the ingredients are dirt cheap and the stuff is basically tasteless.
Phil,
I have a pretty strong stomach; however, I recall eating in a Dallas restaurant in the 1980s some ceviche that was made from halibut (maybe not such a kosher fish) or snapper and marveled at its taste and strong line citrus flavor (lime juice I think is used to cure the fish in ceviche). Out of the corner my eye, after eating a few pieces, I saw some movement and to my great unbelief and disgust, I observed a wriggling light-colored worm, quite alive and anxious about its future. Rest assured, I have not eaten any ceviche since that time.
I love sushi and avoid light-colored fish species like the plague. In general, Ahi tuna does not have parasitic worms or any worms that I have ever seen. There is a funny spoof I remember where two Japanese chefs were laughing that Americans were so stupid they could serve them raw fish, charge them more, and make them think this was healthy food.
Izzy,
That’s funny, the world can be a very small place. I ate in a pasta Dallas’s only kosher restaurant in 1995, puked my brains out when I got home.
Why not? As long as it’s made from kosher fish.
Why not? It’s fish
They used the same clip with different subtitles for the kiddush club parody.
::facepalm::
This is an excellent video. In the end the Torah teaches that we do judge ourselves and it makes sense Hitler will be judging some Jews since we are so hard on each other and even on our selves. My mother who survived the Warsaw ghetto always said “what Hitler didn’t do to the Jews, the Jews will do to themselves”.
I created the video. I apologize if it seems that I was trying to jump on the downfall bandwagon. I would have overdubbed the Shamwow Commercial to get my point across but it just didn’t fit. Antoine Dodson wasn’t available, and the “leave Britney alone” guy/girl would just confuse all the”frummies” which this video was made for. What I find so amazing is that people think that all “frummies” have an impeded sense of humor. I will have you know that just because you consider yourself enlightened does not make you any funnier. As a matter of fact your insulting comments simply show how insecure you truly are. If Frum Satire gave this their “haskama”, that is all I need.
Bandwagon? like the maccabeats that ripped off a guy ripping off another guy that ripped off Van Halen?
This is not coming too late, it is called metahumor(wiki it).
<3 metahumor!
Frummie,
This was funny as hell and the video was great with it too. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing the same shtick later, it’s just that most people won’t bother to look at it because it automatically makes you look lame.
And being a ‘frummy’, I think we are the funniest Jews because we’re the most neurotic.
To provide some context:
The NY Times Magazine had an article about the Downfall Hitler meme in October of 2008! They were ubiquitous already in October 2008…
Frummie: nice. you ripped off my comment from the lakewoods voice didnt you? (meta joke; wiki it)
nice job with the video. whats next?
Smiled but didn’t laugh (except for a mild titter or two, especially at the “acura” remark near the end).
I suspect I would have found it funnier if I was more familiar with that kind of community though.
Nothing compares to the “What album will Phish play for Halloween 2009/Downfall vid”
Great job frummie, except you got it wrong – the schools are the nazis..
but other than that, it was right on target and was more sad than funny.
Heshy, stop being so cynical
